Is he starting? Lampard sends ‘massive’ message to Rudiger ahead of Southampton clash

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger is yet to make an appearance for the Blues this season, with the German international just making the bench once this season.

The German international was linked with a move away from the club before the close of the transfer window, but no move eventually happened, and Rudiger will have to fight for his shirt in the Chelsea team, until the January transfer window at least.

Rudiger had vowed to fight back into the Chelsea team, and speaking to The Athletic about what his future holds, he said: “It is what it is now. I will accept it for the time being and try to show myself in every training session.

“We are in many different competitions, it’s two games per week all the way from now.

“Sometimes in football, things can change very quickly.

“That’s why I will continue to give my best everyday and try to convince the manager.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has told the likes of Rudiger who hasn’t featured this season, that the door hasn’t been shut on them, and all they need to do is prove themselves on the training ground.

However, with the absent of Thiago Silva tomorrow is likely Rudiger make his way in.
