‘It wasn’t his fault, but it was his fault again’ — Joe Cole reveals Mendy’s situations in Chelsea 3-2 lost to West Ham
Chelsea had taken the lead twice in the game but still ended up on the losing side with West Ham scoring a late winner.
For West Ham’s opening goal, Jorginho gave a short back pass to Edouard Mendy who failed to clear the ball for a corner and ended up conceding a cheap penalty.
However, there were so many talking points from this Chelsea’s defeat to West Ham on Saturday afternoon.
A late Arthur Masuaku goal deceived Mendy as it took a slight deflection, with Mendy punching the ball into his own net.
After the game, former Chelsea player Joe Cole has blamed Mendy for the penalty conceded but doesn’t think he should be blamed for Masuaku’s goal.
Joe Cole said on BT Sport: “Mendy was at fault for the penalty.”
On Masuaku’s winner, he added: “That is a freak of a goal. You can’t blame him [Mendy], he’s been outstanding for such a long time.
“Goalkeepers are human beings, not robots. I think it did take a little deflection.
“Freak of a goal, and it would take something like that to beat this Chelsea team – a world-class goal or something like that out of the ordinary.”
