‘It’s a disgrace, it’s difficult’ – Pochettino sends strong message to Mikel Arteta after 4-1 we win over Tottenham
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino insisted he was not digging out Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta in a rant about VAR.
Officiating took centre stage once again as the Blues ended Tottenham’s unbeaten run on Monday night with an utterly chaotic 4-1 win.
VAR intervened on an unprecedented number of occasions as Spurs finished the match with nine men and five goals were disallowed.
It came after Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta launched a furious outburst at Premier League refereeing following Newcastle’s controversial winner against the Gunners on Saturday.
Arteta branded the officials an embarrassing disgrace and insisted he was ashamed to be a part of English football, before Arsenal backed him up with an official statement the next day.
When asked about VAR after the match, Pochettino said: “Too many coaches wanted VAR.
“Then when it’s against you… ah, it’s a disgrace! It’s difficult.
“I’m not talking about Arteta.”
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, on the other hand, certainly appeared to be talking about Arteta in his post-match press conference.
“Premier League managers should just manage their football clubs,” he said.
