“It’s about Me and Reece”- Chelsea player finally reveals how he is adjusting to playing in new position
Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has revealed how he has managed to shift to the right-wing this season, opposite to his position during the last campaign.
This is According to Chelsea’s official site.
Mason Mount has been one of the best young attacking midfielders in the Premier League this season. The Blues academy graduate has developed himself into a key man for Thomas Tuchel’s squad in a short span. The responsibility on the shoulders of the 22-year-old increased in this term due to the absence of senior midfielders. Furthermore, he is the top scorer for the west London club after bagging seven goals in 15 Premier League appearances.
Mason achieved such remarkable feats this season despite playing in a different position as compared to last season. The youngster mainly operated in the left flank in the previous season. Even in the Champions League final, he played on the left side, leaving the right flank to Kai Havertz. But this season, the German manager has interchanged the position between them.
In a recent interview, Mount revealed that even though his role has shifted this season, he has enjoyed the new position and has developed strong qualities playing on the right flank.
“Last season, I did mostly play on the left, and it was a different type of role for me, coming in on my right foot more rather than going down the line or making runs in behind. It’s a different type of position and movement. Playing on the right recently is something that I’ve grown into and got more used to this season, having playing there more and more.”
The Blues academy graduate even suggested that the change in position has made his connection to Reece James even stronger, and the combination of two has been creating recurring threats for opposition defence.
“It’s about me and Reece having that connection to combine, create chances and score goals.”
Mason Mount undoubtedly continues to grow into a top player with his attacking intent and incredible efficiency on the ball. But, Chelsea’s over-dependability on him this season regarding goals would also create some concerns. Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku haven’t been efficient enough to reach the heights we know they are capable of.
