“It’s not just goals and assists” – Tuchel responded to Cristiano Ronaldo possible move as Todd Boehly meets with Super agent
Cristiano Ronaldo, who has ties to Chelsea, has already received Thomas Tuchel’s opinion.
The potential move of Cristiano Ronaldo to Chelsea was reportedly discussed during a meeting between Blues co-owner Todd Boehly and super agent Jorge Mendes.
Last season, Ronaldo scored 18 goals in the Premier League while Manchester United was eliminated from the Champions League.
Romelu Lukaku is scheduled to leave for Inter Milan this summer on a loan, thus Chelsea is looking for a replacement.
Boehly promised the head coach the flexibility to choose who to bring in and who to let go, so Tuchel has been given authority in the transfer market.
When questioned about the possibility of Ronaldo returning to the Premier League while still a member of Juventus, Tuchel acknowledged it would make his job more difficult.
Tuchel joked: “I don’t think it’s good if he plays for any of our rivals!
“If he ends up in the Premier League, it’s good for the Premier League and shows how competitive and how difficult this league is.
“At the same time it will make life harder for us.”
However, Tuchel did not stop there in his discussion of Ronaldo, as he was once again asked about the Portugal star when his return to Manchester United was confirmed last summer.
“Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival in the Premier League is good for the league, but it is bad for us,” Tuchel admitted.
The German continued to back the forward to be a success, which he was in his first season.
He continued: “I think he will have a huge impact. He is a true champion and has proved at any level, in any year, he can perform at outstanding levels. And don’t forget, he will have an impact every day with the group, it’s not just goals and assists.
“You ask me about it, which is fair enough. I think he will have a huge impact because he is a champion, a true champion. He has proved on any level in any year that he can perform on outstanding levels.
“Cristiano leads by example and makes things more complicated for us! Very exciting, we will not change our ambitions because of that.”
The Blues continued to pursue their goals as Tuchel had promised, winning the Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup in addition to making it to both domestic finals.
Finally, Tuchel acknowledged that Ronaldo, who scored an equalizer against his team at Old Trafford last season, may serve as a model for his Chelsea players.
Sending a message to his forwards, who were wasteful during the match against United, Tuchel said: “I think many players can look up to the quality, attitude and career of Ronaldo.”
It remains to be seen as to whether Chelsea will pursue a deal for Ronaldo this summer, but judging from Tuchel’s previous comments, he is certainly a fan of the Manchester United star.
