“It’s so clear that it isn’t his best position” -Tuchel finally reveals he has been using Chelsea player wrongly
Thomas Tuchel bring on Callum Hudson-Odoi as a substitute just before half-time against Malmo, as he was brought on to replace the injured Timo Werner.
The 20-year-old played in a more familiar left wing role and was a constant threat in the game. He had a good game and provided the assist for Kai Havertz to score the third goal for Chelsea.
The academy product broke into the scene as a 17-year-old under Maurizio Sarri and was a bright young player under the Italian before an Achilles injury forced him out before the end of the 2018-19 season.
Under Thomas Tuchel, he has tried to utilise the young winger in an unfamiliar right wing-back role. Hudson-Odoi has tried his best in the role, and while he has done okay, it’s so clear that it isn’t his best position.
After the 4-0 win against Malmo, Tuchel admitted Hudson-Odoi plays best on the left wing, but insisted that he can still help the team as a right wing-back.
“This is his best position, I know,” Tuchel told beIN Sports.
“Sometimes he needs to help as a right wing-back, so he needs to take it for the team.
“But we know the half left position up front is his best position.”
