“I’ve met him in Ibiza” – Cesc Fabregas says on Mauricio Pochettino ahead of next season

“I’ve met him in Ibiza we talked about next season” – Cesc Fabregas says on Mauricio Pochettino ahead of next season

Cesc Fabregas has claimed that he believes Mauricio Pochettino is a more than reasonable candidate to give the job as Chelsea manager.

He told The Athletic that he believes the Argentine will be able to install a lot of confidence in young players that could be crucial for the club going forwards.

This week finally saw the announcement of Pochettino be made permanent, after weeks of speculation that he was the only real candidate for the job.

He outlasted competition from the likes of Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique for the job, although will now be crystal clear on the size of the task he has undertaken.

The Blues finished 12th last season, and are in desperate need for this appointment to go well in order to bounce back towards the top end of the table.

Fabregas has now backed Pochettino, whilst also admitting he does want to see Chelsea return to where they belong.

Fabregas backs Pochettino for success

He said: “I’ve never worked with him, I’ve obviously heard of him. I’ve met him a couple of times on holiday in Ibiza. I’ve played against him obviously when he was at Spurs and we’ve chatted after matches.

“I think he seems like a very reasonable man, very calm, that gives a lot of confidence to younger players and has a good structure and has a staff that he trusts so much.

“I hope he’s the right man to bring back Chelsea to the position where they belong.”

This pre-season is going to be massive in trying to get everyone on the same page in regards to the future of the club.

The owners will certainly need to back the manager in whatever decisions he makes regarding player sales and signings.
