The Blues have confirmed the signing of Thiago Silva, on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain.
The 35-year-old has signed a one-year deal, with the club having an option of a further 12 months.
Silva is expected to slot straight into the heart of Chelsea’s defence, with Frank Lampard keen to get an experienced centre-back for Chelsea. The Blues defence was porous last season, and Silva is expected to bring his quality to the club next season after a series of stunning performances for both PSG and Brazil over the years.
Former Chelsea defender and club legend John Terry, has hailed Silva’s signing, and is expecting the Brazilian to come up with the goods next season.
“What a signing this is,” the former Chelsea captain commented after the Blues confirmed the deal.
Upon signing for the club, Silva told the club’s official website: “I am so happy to be joining Chelsea.
“I am delighted to be a part of Frank Lampard’s exciting squad for next season and I’m here to challenge for honours. See you soon Chelsea fans, I look forward to playing at Stamford Bridge very soon.”
