Journalist confirms Boehly wants to bring ‘glorious’ 6 ft 2 star to Chelsea
According to latest reports, Journalist Pete O’Rourke believes that Chelsea ‘would love’ to bring Rafael Leao to Stamford Bridge amid recent interest.
Meanwhile, According to The Times, Chelsea were in talks with AC Milan in the summer with the view of a potential deal.
However, it came to light that the Serie A winners were unwilling to agree to a deal unless the Portuguese forward’s €150m release clause (£131m) was met.
The Director of the Italian giants, Paolo Maldini, said that the club turned down an offer from Chelsea as it was at an ‘informal level.’
The former defender believes that the 23-year-old could now pen an improved deal at the San Siro amid reports that the two parties are in talks over a revised contract.
His current terms would see his contract expire in 2024 but O’Rourke still believes that the Blues could revisit a potential deal.
He told GIVEMESPORT: “Chelsea did make an approach during the summer transfer window, which was flatly rejected by AC Milan.
“Obviously, we know they’ve had problems scoring goals over the last season and even this season, so I’m sure Leao is somebody they would love to bring to Stamford Bridge. But it seems Milan are pretty insistent that they see his future at the San Siro.”
Summer signing Raheem Sterling is the only player in the Chelsea squad to score more than one goal in the Premier League so far this season but with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang settling in, it could help with the Blues’ chances of getting closer to the top two from last season.
Despite being the league’s third-highest scoring team last term, both Manchester City (99) and Liverpool (94) considerably outscored the west London side (76).
Nevertheless, Leao could dramatically improve their forward line if they do look to bring him to the club in the future, having been directly involved in 26 goals in 42 appearances last season.
Tipped to have a ‘glorious’ career by his former coach Tiago Fernandes the 6 ft 2 in star could be a marquee signing for Todd Boehly, but it remains to be seen where his future lies.
