Just in: That ‘Major factor’ that makes Lukaku changed his mind and sign for Chelsea finally revealed
The former Chelsea and Manchester United striker has reportedly completed his medical and all that is left is paperwork to complete the move.
We have looked back at how this deal seemed impossible just a fortnight ago.
Just last month, Lukaku insisted that he was staying at Inter despite strong interest from Chelsea.
“Yes, I am staying,” Lukaku told VTM last month. “I feel good at Inter.
“I’ve already had contact with the man who normally becomes our new manager [Simone Inzaghi]. Maybe I shouldn’t say that yet… but it was a very positive conversation.”
Lukaku’s agent, Federico Pastorello also maintained that Lukaku won’t be leaving.
What then changed for Lukaku, and the change of mind to move to Chelsea?
However, according to the Times, a major factor in Lukaku’s u-turn was the chance to work with Thomas Tuchel. The German coach had a conversation with the Belgian and detailed his plan for the big Belgian – which was similar to the one that Antonio Conte had for him in Italy.
Lukaku is said to have been impressed with Tuchel’s tactical vision for him, and also noted how badly Chelsea needed a striker like him as the Blues lacked a clinical forward last term who can as well play with his back to goal.
Another main factor that changed Lukaku’s decision was Chelsea’s determination in negotiations with Inter. The Serie A giants were insistent that Lukaku wasn’t for sale and rejected two bids from Chelsea. But Lukaku knew it was time to return home when Chelsea came back with an improved offer.
