Lampard confirms Thiago Silva fitness ahead of Burnley clash

Chelsea have looked so much better defensively in the games that Thiago Silva has played that nobody ever wants to see him miss out.

That meant a lot of consternation when he was rested after an international break trip back to South America, and even more worry when he missed out on the journey to Russia to play Krasnodar last night.

The Blues made it through unscathed though, and according to Frank Lampard in his press conference (as you can see in the Tweet from Nizaar Kinsella embedded above), he had only let his new defensive rock stay at home for “maintenance.”

We love to see that. There are so many games this season that we need to take our breaks where we can, and sparing your oldest player a midweek return trip to Russia can only be a good thing.

Let’s hope it pays off with a win on Saturday.
