Lampard finally reveals why Everton defeated Chelsea following Azpilicueta give-away goal
In a recent statement, former Chelsea and current Everton manager Frank Lampard explained why his team defeated the Blues in Sunday’s Premier League match at Goodison Park.
Everton overcame Chelsea 1-0 in the second half thanks to a goal from Richarlison.
Lampard claimed that his club beat Chelsea because their discipline and work ethic were superior than Thomas Tuchel’s.
In his match versus Chelsea, the former Blues boss didn’t turn off much, noting that his goalkeeper was outstanding.
Lampard’s side took all three points against the Blues thanks to Richarlison’s only goal of the game.
“It’s about making sure the guys were disciplined today because when you play top-level players, they will punish you,” Lampard remarked during his post-match press conference. We didn’t switch off much today, and when we did, we were aided by a fantastic goalie.”
“My main concern before the game is that [the fans’ reaction] would lead us to run for the sake of running,” he continued. You can’t do that against Chelsea because they’ll just pass you by. The work attitude and discipline were excellent. It was the result of tremendous support, and the players delivered.”
