Lampard gives return date for Emerson injury, and it’s not good news

There is no traditional press conference ahead of tomorrow’s game with Grimsby – t

here have been plenty in recent weeks and there’s not much more to say, but instead the official Chelsea website has has a small Q and A with manager Frank Lampard.

The biggest pieces of news were on the injury situations. Andreas Christensen limped off against Liverpool at the weekend, but Lampard says that it’s “not too severe,” and that “he won’t be out for too long.”

That’s comforting, but what of left back Emerson, who made his return from injury at the weekend only to leave the pitch after 15 minutes.

“He won’t be back until after the international break,” Lampard confirmed, a real blow to the team. That’s a full month from now.

The Italy international was playing so well and will now go on to have missed a couple of months thanks to what happened on his last trip to join up with his country.

Marcos Alonso covered well at the weekend, but he’s an inferior option overall.

Let’s just hope we can get Emerson back and firing long term. We don’t want this issue to turn chronic.
