Lampard insists Kante to skip international break would be ‘great for everybody’

The first international break of the 2019/20 season comes on the opening weekend of the next month. France will take on Albania and Andorra on September 7 and 10 respectively.

Lampard hopes Didier Deschamps will allow N’Golo Kante to skip the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers as the midfielder needs to get back to full fitness after a series of recent setbacks.

“It is a difficult one. He has had four years of constantly playing,” Lampard said of Kante’s injury, as cited by Goal.

“[The] injury from the Europa League final has affected his pre-season. Then he hurt himself against Man United.

“We are trying to get him through it. Today was too painful. The international break will be great for him to get the injury right.

It would be great for everybody [if Kante stays] because he’s been playing game after game after game.”

Kante has been sidelined for the majority of the Blues’ summer pre-season tour but managed to return to action for the opening fixture of the current campaign – a 4-0 defeat at United.

He also featured against Leicester in the gameweek 2 draw at the Bridge. The 28-year-old eventually returned to the sidelines with an ankle injury ahead of Saturday’s trip to Norwich.
