Chelsea midfielder Jorginho have missed the starting lineup for Chelsea since the restart of the Premier League, there have been fears about his future.
However, Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri is keen to sign Jorginho, having signed him for the Blues when he was manager of the club.
N’Golo Kanté and Mateo Kovacic were both injured for the Palace game, and it was expected that Lampard will start Jorginho. However, the Blues boss opted to start youngster Billy Gilmour and only brought in Jorginho for the final ten minutes of the game.
Manchester United legend Gary Neville had claimed that Lampard has a plan to sell Jorginho, to which the Chelsea manager has denied that notion.
Lampard has maintained Jorginho remains an ‘important’ part of his squad and says the midfielder’s ‘quality’ helped Chelsea to see out Palace.
Asked if Billy Gilmour is now ahead of Jorginho, Lampard replied: “It’s certainly not a case of being number one. “I thought Jorginho when he came on was quality. We needed his experience and his ball retention. He made a lot of passes and calmed us down.
“I think Billy did okay as well but I don’t think it was our midfield’s best performance today. That’s not just Billy, I think generally we can do better than that.
“The players know that but it’s part of their experience because they’re pretty young in there. Without a doubt Jorginho it’s not a case of being number one. “Players like Jorginho are invaluable. He’s played a lot of games for me this season and he’ll continue to be important for us.”
