Frank Lampard gave a rare start to Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour for the game against Liverpool.
The 18-year-old was handed the opportunity to impress in midfield as he was named alongside Mateo Kovacic and Ross Barkley in midfield.
Explaining his decision to start the youngster, Lampard said: “Billy’s playing because he deserves to play, because of how he’s trained and how he’s played when he’s been in there.
“Comfortable choice. Big game for Billy and obviously a big test. His character and personality, and his quality as well, I think he can handle it. ‘I’m very happy with Billy.”
Gilmour lasted 90 minutes on the pitch and was excellent for the Blues. The 18-year-old more than justified his inclusion and showed the boss that he needs to be considered for future games.
