Chelsea beat Manchester United 3-1 at Wembley, putting in a superb performance to blow away the in-form Red Devils.
The players on the pitch were great, but Frank Lampard’s tactical switch to a 3 at the back system was also a key element in the win.
Speaking after the game, the Chelsea boss praised his players for the way they rapidly adapted to a system they hadn’t used in a while, picking out a few players who had shone for him.
He’s spot on with his analysis of the wing backs. By adding an extra central defender he allowed them both to press higher up the pitch, and they prevented Man U from ever being able to play out of the back successfully.
That high press was so effective, and while Lampard is praising the players, his decision to use that system at all also deserves a lot of credit.
Lampard beaming on his TV interview: "Some things can't always control but when you see the team come out and run, wing-backs jump up to get close to people, midfield players in Jorginho and Kovacic, Giroud and Mount, I could go through the whole team and I am very proud." #CFC
