Chelsea have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup, after being beaten by Tottenham in the fourth round of the competition.

The Blues had gone ahead through Timo Werner in the 19th minute but Jose Mourinho’s side got a late equaliser through Erik Lamela on the 83rd minute.

The game will eventually be decided on penalties, and Chelsea lost in the shootout, with Mason Mount spilling his shot wide.

The young midfielder looked disheartened after the game and had to be consoled by his teammates and the manager.

On the effect that missing a decisive penalty will have on a young player like Mount, Lampard sent his support to Mount as he said:

“I don’t think it should be a shattering blow. It is a disappointing night to get knocked out of the Carabao Cup, but Mason will have many more nights for this club and his country when he will play in games with huge importance on them and he will be the deciding factor in a positive way.

“He has my support at all times, and the team’s and everyone around him. You miss a penalty and it is a collective when you get this far in a game like this.”
