Lazio are prepared to sell sought-after midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to the likes of Chelsea in the summer. Chelsea were able to delve into their transfer kitty this transfer window after getting their transfer ban overturned just a few months ago.
But despite all the talk, and despite all the speculation surrounding possible new Chelsea signings, Frank Lampard has been unable to complete the transfer deals that he would have liked and will now have to wait until the summer to get his transfer deals done.
And that has led to speculation in the media suggesting that a new midfielder will be a priority for the Blues boss, as he needs to add a top-class player to the side in order to fill the void being left by Willian.
Willian has dominated the headlines over the past few months as he will be leaving Chelsea after failing to agree a new contract with the club, with reports suggesting he wanted a three-year deal to stay, and Chelsea were not ready to offer that.
Now Chelsea have been boosted on their chase for Milinkovic-savic, the club’s sporting director Igli Tare has claimed the Serie A side will ‘assess’ things at the end of the season.
“The player’s desire is crucial. Generally speaking, if a player thinks that their time is up and wants to go somewhere else, it shouldn’t be a problem,” Tare told Goal
‘Eras come to an end. Just look what happened to Napoli this season. The fact he stayed in Rome for five years is because he has strong links with the city and club. ‘When there was some temptation, a bit on our part, a bit on his, we never went all the way. However, things must be assessed at the end of the season.’
It is believed that Chelsea would be able to complete a deal for Milinkovic-Savic if they pay close to £80 million, as the midfielder is regarded as one of the finest in Europe right now.
