Liverpool owner reveals crucial chats with Todd Boehly ahead of Chelsea takeover
Tom Werner, the owner of Liverpool, has spoken out against Todd Boehly’s takeover of Chelsea.
The Daily Mail has remarks from an FSG partner who is familiar with Boehly because they are both Major League Baseball team owners.
Tom Werner said: “John Henry and I have known and admired Todd from his association with the Los Angeles Dodgers… I’ve had a couple of conversations with him in the last week. He was just picking my brain. I think he will be good for Chelsea. I know they are working right now on a stadium solution. I think he will prove to be an excellent owner.”
However, Boehly is expected to join FSG at Liverpool, as well as a slew of other American owners in the Premier League who are steadily chevaliering the English top flight.
The stadium crisis has been the elephant in the room since Roman Abramovich halted plans to replace Stamford Bridge.
The future of Chelsea’s home was always going to be a major component in the sale and the club’s destiny.
The takeover of Boehly is not yet complete, but with Premier League and government approval, there’s no reason to believe it won’t be completed in the coming days.
