Madrid ‘expect’ £350,000-a-week superstar to leave club this summer with Chelsea interested in bargain deal

Real Madrid expect captain Sergio Ramos to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season, with Chelsea reportedly interested in a transfer deal

There is no doubt that Ramos has been one of the very best central defenders for well over 10 years now, and looked like that he was going to retire at the Spanish giants.

However, that may not be the case after news broke that he has not agreed a new contract at the club, which means that he may have to leave the club at the end of the season with a move to the Premier League possibly on the agenda.

A new contract offer has been on the table for five months but Ramos’ failure to respond has led Los Blancos to believe he is ready to accept a better offer elsewhere.

Real’s offer is believed to include a 10% reduction in wages as they look to cut costs across the board – something Ramos seemingly isn’t prepared to accept.

The news comes a few weeks after Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane has admitted he is unsure what the future holds for the club captain, Speaking at a press conference earlier in the season, Zidane said: “I want to be honest and I have to say I don’t know what’s going to happen with him.

“We want him to stay here. He’s always going to be an important player and I want him to remain here, that’s what I’ll say as a coach.

“Will Ramos play until he’s 40? That is what Sergio has said. He is a special player. His intention is already good because he wants to continue playing.

“Every year he will know if he is in good shape and, if he is like he is now, of course he can play until he is 40, if he wants.”
