Chelsea new signings Timo Werner and Kai Havertz made their debut for London giants. Goals from Jorginho, Reece James, and Kurt Zouma were enough to start a new season with all three points. Leandro Trossard scored a goal for Brighton to deny a clean sheet for the Chelsea.

Timo Werner started ahead of Tammy Abraham and Oliver Giroud in the striker position. Werner showed his athletic natural forward skills on several occasions on Sunday but failed to score on his debut.

Club record signing Kai Havertz was one of the most exciting prospects on the pitch for the spectators. He started on the right side of the attack in Frank Lampard’s 4-3-3 formation. Havertz also failed to start his Chelsea Career with scoring debut but showed his brilliant abilities against Brighton. Another signing Hakim Ziyech is expected to play that role once he returns from injury.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek was the only surprise inclusion on the team sheet. He started ahead of the likes of Mateo Kovacic and Ross Barkley in the midfield. He failed to impress on his return, was substituted by Ross Barkley in the second half.

Renewed Chelsea will face Premier League Champions Liverpool at home next Sunday. Unlike Chelsea, Liverpool did not make any first-team signing for two years in a row.

TRANSFER UPDATE ON NEW GOALKEEPER SIGNING FOR THE CHELSEA
According to football London Chelsea is closing on their seventh signing of the season. Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy will be the next major Chelsea signing.

Chelsea and Rennes have agreed around £20million including addons for the goalkeeper. This deal could be happening in the coming days at Stamford Bridge. Current number one Kepa Arrizabalaga will be in direct competition with the 28-year-old Senegal International.

Declan Rice has been another primary transfer target for Frank Lampard in this transfer window. West Ham defensive midfielder is constantly linked with a Chelsea move but official negotiations are yet to start.

Chelsea are willing to free up some funds for the Rice deal, who have already spent more than £200million in this window. Lampard is looking to sell Ross Barkley, Tiemoue Bakayoko, and Danny Drinkwater to make funds available for the transfer of Declan Rice. £40million plus Ross Barkley is also on the table for the London sides who value Rice around £80million.

LATEST CHELSEA INJURY UPDATE
Cristian Pulisic was surprisingly not on the team sheet for the opening day clash against Brighton. Pulisic remains one of the best players for Chelsea but was not available on Sunday due to injury.

USA International suffered a hamstring injury against Arsenal in the FA Cup defeat at the end of last season. He recovered from injury and also participated in recent training sessions at Stamford Bridge. But he was not even on the bench for the Brighton clash. Frank Lampard confirmed an injury setback for the Pulisic and his return date will remain unknown for now.

New signing Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva still remain on the sidelines due to different injures. They will wait for their debuts with The Blues, return timelines for them also remains unclear for now.
