Mark Lawrenson makes ‘Shocking’ prediction on Chelsea vs Liverpool clash

According to Mark Lawrenson, The FA Cup tie between Chelsea and Liverpool might end up being decided in a penalty shootout, ex-Reds’ defender.

As there are no replays at this stage of the competition, it will have to be decided on the spot, and the ex-Red thinks this will be exactly the case at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.

“I don’t think Klopp will play as many kids this time – after Dejan Lovren’s performance at the back at the weekend I would definitely be playing him, because he looked unbelievably rusty,” Lawrenson told BBC predicting a 1-1 draw and a Liverpool win on penalties.

“The bench from Saturday will probably play, so I would expect to see Adrian, Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi for starters.

“You will see young players like Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Neco Williams, who featured against Everton in the third round, here again too but as part of what will be a pretty strong team.

“I am not sure how Chelsea manager Frank Lampard will approach this tie, though.

“His priority surely has to be a top-four finish and the Champions League, because next summer is going to be a big one for their recruitment, and they probably need to be in it to attract the players they want.

“So this tie is hard to call, but I have a feeling it will go the distance. It has to be decided on the night and I think it will end in a shootout, which Liverpool will win.”

Chelsea have faced Liverpool twice this season: the UEFA Super Cup showdown ended in a 2-2 draw (Liverpool won on penalties), but the Blues lost 2-1 at home in the Premier League.
