According to The Athletic, Chelsea are close to reaching an agreement with Leicester City for the transfer of England international Ben Chilwell.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard had identified the 23-year-old as his first choice left-back target this summer and it is understood a deal worth between £45-50 million is close to being agreed.
Chilwell missed Leicester’s final three games of the season with a heel injury. According to The Athletic, he has undergone some medical checks to establish the condition of the injury, with Chelsea kept informed of the results, and he is expected to be ready to return in about three weeks.
Manchester City were also reportedly interested in the left-back but the report claims Pep Guardiola’s side never made a significant move for Chilwell.
Left-back has been a problem position for Chelsea this season, with Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso failing to meet the standards expected.
