Mendy sets massive record after saving Aguero’s penalty

Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy saved a Sergio Aguero penalty just before half-time in Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City on Saturday.

Mendy is the first goalkeeper to save a Sergio Aguero penalty in the Premier League at the Etihad since April 2016 (Maarten Stekelenburg for Everton).

It was also the first penalty Mendy has saved since joining Chelsea from Rennes last summer.

According to ESPN, Chelsea are on alert with Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak keen on a Premier League move.

The Slovenian feels that it is the right time to move on and his representatives have been tasked with drumming up interest from the Premier League.

Oblak, 28, has two years remaining on his contract, which contains a £104million release clause.

Should Chelsea sign Oblak, Edouard Mendy’s position as Chelsea no.1 goalkeeper would be in doubt.
