BBC pundit Alan Shearer is predicting that Chelsea will continue spending in the transfer market after they sealed a deal for RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner.
The former England captain believes Blues boss Frank Lampard will be keen to bring in more signings, and he names Leicester’s Ben Chilwell as the next player who could arrive at Stamford Bridge:
“Signing Timo Werner is a huge statement from Chelsea – but it would be a kick in the teeth not to make the top four now.”
“Along with Hakim Ziyech, they have got two big-hitters through the door before the transfer window has opened. I am certain there will be more to come, too, with Ben Chilwell also on their radar.”
Negotiations are already underway for Chilwell, according to some reports, but supporters should not expect a deal to be agreed in the near future.
Leicester are notoriously tough negotiators and there are even claims that the Foxes may hold out for a similar fee they sold Harry Maguire for last summer.
On top of that, there will also be competition for Chilwell, with Manchester City said to be very keen on the 23-year-old. Chelsea are, though, reportedly the favourites, with the England international said to be open to a switch to the London club.
