New Chelsea’s two penalty takers under Tuchel confirmed

Chelsea new boss Thomas Tuchel has had penalty training sessions with the team, and has been pleased with the performance of Jorginho and Mason Mount.

According to Tuchel, Jorginho is the first choice penalty taker, while Mount is second choice.

Jorginho’s penalty had become nightmarish for fans of late, and former boss Frank Lampard had to drop him from taking kicks.

However, Tuchel has now revealed how he used third choice goalkeeper Willy Caballero to get the best out of his penalty takers.

In the end, Chelsea needed a penalty goal to beat Tottenham, and Jorginho calmly slotted the ball past Hugo Lloris.

Explaining his choice of penalty takers, Tuchel said: “The guys took some penalties in the last nine days after training, and we have Willy Caballero pushing our penalty takers to be absolutely serious. If you are not serious you don’t score against him, so you get a pretty good picture of who is capable and who is not.

“Jorginho and Mason Mount were the names we put down and I went to Jorginho just before the match and asked him if he feels confident if we get a penalty and he said clearly yes.

“So we trusted him but I did not talk to him about how to take them. The players have to do it how they feel confident, and we are very happy he could score it.”
