Newcastle boss gives 3 reason why Newcastle lost 2-0 to Chelsea
Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has revealed why his team lost 2-0 to Chelsea on Saturday in the Premier League.
Bruce said: “We didn’t do enough in the first half and got off to an awful start. And against the big boys the one thing you can’t do is gift them an opener, it’d hard enough.
“Second half I thought we were much better, we had a few opportunities and in the big key moments you have to take one of them.
“So in the second half there was a lot of pleasing points, but it was a very difficult afternoon against an excellent Chelsea team.
“It’s a soft goal we’ve given away and the second is a bit soft too. We have to be a lot more cunning and create a foul there. “It’s always difficult against a top, top team, they are as good a side as you see in Europe at the minute. But we have to have a bit more belief in what we do, and we will.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard acknowledged that the whole game didn’t go Chelsea’s way but was pleased with Chelsea’s control in the early stages of the game.
“We can’t have it all our own way, but we put the game away with a professional performance,” Lampard told BT Sport after the game. “First 20 minutes we were great, we had control and all the possession.
“They came out in the second half and I always felt that the real danger from us would be on the counter.
“You saw that with Timo (Werner) on the break and then setting up Tammy (Abraham’s) goal. “It’s very easy to play the safe pass but we had to keep making the runs and efforts to get in there.”
