News of the week: As blues eyeing up ambitious £70 million move for La Liga star
According to The Athletic, Chelsea are considering a summer transfer move for Atletico Madrid centre-back Jose Gimenez.
Now it is no secret that Thomas Tuchel is keen to add to his squad in the coming transfer window and has been linked with the likes of Dayot Upamecano to help improve that back-line.
But after Bayern Munich confirmed that they would be signing Upamecano at the end of the season, it means that Tuchel will have to turn his attentions elsewhere, and has reportedly set his sights on the impressive Konate
The 26-year-old has reportedly been on their radar since 2016, and they were publicly linked with him last summer. He’s been limited by muscle injuries this year, starting just 12 games in La Liga due to a lack of availability.
But now reports on the Athletic have claimed that Chelsea are now looking to make a £70 million transfer deal for the player, as Tuchel wants to add a premium centre-back to that defence in the transfer window.
Chelsea appear to be casting a wide net in their search for defensive reinforcements, having also been connected to David Alaba, Niklas Sule and Ibrahima Konate at the back.
Howevr, There is no doubt that Thomas Tuchel has a world class squad, but adding another premium centre-back to that defence will make Chelsea serious contenders for that Premier League title next season.
Gimenez is certainly a player that would add some much needed quality to that back-line of Chelsea and if they are able to get a deal done, he would be a massively great signing for the Blues.
