“No deadline” – Club president happy to wait for Chelsea to increase offer, player wants move

Earlier on Friday, we covered a story from L’Equipe stating that Chelsea had put forward an offer of €27.5m for Elye Wahi.

Confirming that an offer from Mauricio Pochettino’s side has come and gone, since they rejected it, the Montpellier leader was then asked whether there was a rush to sell Wahi.

In what could either encourage or frustrate Chelsea, he replied: “There is no deadline. We are August 3rd. We agreed on an exit. We’ll think about it if the league starts and maybe we’ll put a deadline. There’s a month left of the transfer window. We’ve said certain things to each other.

“He’s training, we’ll see with him. If there’s nothing come the 20th or the 25th of August, we aren’t more stupid than anyone else. We’ll talk. He’ll be available for the first-team.”

Therefore, a game of chicken certainly could work in Chelsea’s favour, but, at the end of the day, Montpellier will always have the final say.

Despite Wahi wanting to leave and having made that clear to his current club, if the Blues don’t increase their offer, he might see that chance slip away, and the Premier League side move onto other targets.
