“Nothing special, Lukaku is better than this man” – Rival fans mocks Liverpool decision for spending 100m on an unproven player
Rival supporters are taunting Liverpool after the Reds signed Benfica striker Darwin Nunez for €80 million plus add-ons.
Nunez, 22, was in high demand after a prolific goal-scoring season for the Primeira Liga club.
For Benfica, the Uruguayan forward scored 34 goals in 41 games across all competitions, and he was in dazzling form throughout the season.
Liverpool have completed a €80 million + €20 million add-ons agreement for Nunez, according to Fabrizio Romano, with the striker signing a five-year contract with the Merseyside club.
Rival fans, on the other hand, are disappointed by the transfer, believing that the amount paid by the Reds is excessive.
Manchester City has signed Erling Haaland, with the Premier League winners paying the forward’s £51 million release clause.
Nunez’s signing has drawn comparisons to Haaland’s, as the two players have similar playing styles. The two new arrivals have added a fresh dimension to the Manchester City-Liverpool rivalry.
Here are some Twitter replies from rival fans mocking the newcomer to Anfield:
