‘One appearance this season! as Chelsea player set to leave after 16 years

Chelsea midfielder Lewis Baker is set to leave Stamford Bridge as a free agent this month after making just one appearance for the Blues this season. This is According to Daily Mail.

Baker’s contract expires at the end of the season but the Blues are reportedly willing to let him leave for free this January amid interest from Championship side Stoke City.

However, Baker joined Chelsea’s academy from Luton Town in 2005 and made just two appearances for the Blues. His Chelsea debut came in the FA Cup against Derby County in 2014 while his second Chelsea appearance was against Chesterfield, when he came on as a second-half substitute in Saturday’s 5-1 FA Cup win.

The 26 year old was close to making the squad for the 2-0 Carabao Cup quarter-final win at Brentford last month but tested positive for Covid-19.

Since making his Chelsea debut in 2014, Baker has had loan spells at Sheffield Wednesday, MK Dons, Vitesse, Middlesbrough, Leeds, Reading, Fortuna Dusseldorf and he spent last season at Trabzonspor in Turkey.

Furthermore, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel revealed last month that he intended playing Baker in the Carabao Cup victory over Brentford last month before the midfielder tested positive for Covid-19.

“We planned a squad with Lewis Baker from the academy and now he is positive so we can start from scratch. This is what we do right now. The players arrive in the next hour. Tuchel said.

“The players arrive from training in the late afternoon. Right now, we prepare for the match to be played even to plan training is pretty exciting. Even until the last hour, you don’t know which players will arrive.”
