Thiago Silva played his last game for Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich, which the German side won 1-0 to lift the trophy.
Silva is reportedly on his way to Stamford Bridge, and he’s set to join Chelsea for one season with the option of staying for a further year.
The Athletic’s Thiago Silva reported via Twitter as he wrote: “Brazil centre-back Thiago Silva to Chelsea a done deal. Contract 1 year + option of another that can be triggered by either side. Scheduled to undergo medical this week.”
“This was my last match at PSG. I am sad,” Silva told RMC Sport after the final whistle in Lisbon.
“I apologise to the supporters. I want to thank all the fans for their love.
“I will come back to PSG… I want to play for three or four more years and be at the World Cup in Qatar.”
Thiago Silva will turn 36 in September, and he’s seen as a short-term solution to Chelsea’s defensive woes, as Frank Lampard is seeking to bring an experienced defender to his side.
