Former Ajax man Hakim Ziyech was expected to light up the Premier League this season, as he seemed one of the deadly players signed by Frank Lampard ahead of the 2020-21 season.

The season hasn’t gone as planned for Ziyech, with injuries curtailing his progress under former boss Frank Lampard. And new boss Thomas Tuchel hasn’t given him much playing time.

Ziyech has only featured in the Premier League once under Tuchel, and he was subbed off in that game – a goalless draw against Wolves.

The 27-year-old was given a start in the FA Cup clash against Barnsley, and he failed to impress the new boss.

Ziyech was dropped to the bench yet again against Newcastle, and talks of his future being away from Stamford Bridge has made the rounds.

The Moroccan superstar hasn’t been active on social media of late, but he took to his Instagram page to post a picture of himself playing PlayStation, with the caption “Nuketownnnnnnn”.

Meanwhile, Tuchel has urged the former Ajax star to step up his game and get used to the intensity of the English game.

“For me it’s clear that he needs to adapt to this kind of football, this kind of league,” Tuchel said.

“He comes from the Dutch league, from a strong Ajax squad but they were the benchmark in the league and it’s not the same intensity and competition as it is here.

“But he’s adapting and he has the certain quality to decide matches and the certain quality to do the unexpected which can give you an extra twist in any game and on level which he proved with Ajax.

“Of course we want to push him to the same level of performance that he showed there and this is our job.”
