(Photo): Chelsea fans react as Bruno Fernandes escape red card for slapping Jorginho
There wasn’t much talking point in the goalless draw between Chelsea and Manchester United, as both sides played out a very boring game.
One incident that should have been a talking point was Bruno Fernandes clashing with Jorginho. Fernandes gave Jorginho a very gentle slap on the back of his head during the first half.
The coming together happened in the 20th minute at Old Trafford, but VAR took light of it.
The incident wasn’t spotted by the referee Martin Atkinson, and it seems that VAR also missed the incident.
Bruno Fernandes could easily have gotten the same fate teammate Anthony Martial suffered in United last home game. Martial was sent off for lightly hitting Erik Lamela, much to Olé Gunnar Solskjaer’s dismay.
Chelsea fans and United fans however agreed that Bruno Fernandes was lucky this time.
UtdArena said: “If Jorginho dropped to the ground from that Fernandes ‘slap’, I’m quite confident the referee would ask for a review and, via VAR, Fernandes would’ve been sent off
“So many things go unnoticed by referees because players don’t react.”
@FA @premierleague Bruno Fernandes has just assaulted Jorginho. Your VAR referees should look into whether that should be a red card.
