Player reveals why he joined Chelsea, Blues to spend £90m on 27-goal player, as Rio Ferdinand comments on Chelsea situation

Ben Chilwell has admitted that he joined Chelsea to play in the big games.

Chilwell is easily regarded as one of the finest left-backs in the Premier League right now, and after his move to the Bridge, he now has seven assists and three goals this season as he fights for a place in Gareth Southgate’s starting line-up for England at Euro 2020.

And after establishing himself in this side, Chilwell has now opened up and revealed just why he signed with Chelsea, Speaking to talkSPORT, Chilwell said: “This is the reason I came to Chelsea. You want to be playing in so-called cup finals every week when you’re challenging for top four.

“We’ve got Real Madrid on Tuesday, which is stuff as a kid you dream about and we’ve got a cup final.

“It’s a reason I came to Chelsea and we’re excited. Every week is going to be an important game when we are challenging for silverware and top four.

“The Euros on top of that as well, we’re hoping to capitalise on that.”

The win over West Ham this week cemented Chelsea’s grip on a top-four place and the importance of the game was not lost on the players: “(It was) massive. Both teams are fighting for top four.

“We’re roughly on the same number of points, so we knew whoever won today would have a good chance of getting in the top four.

“Thankfully we won and we knew before the game the importance of it. The clean sheet is massive and to get the goal we were happy for Timo (Werner).”

Blues to spend £90m on 27-goal player

According to the SUN, Chelsea could make a club-record move to sign Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan this summer.

The Belgian has excelled for the Nerazzurri this term with 27 goals. 21 of those have come in the league where they are top of the table.

According to The Sun, the Blues are planning to pursue a new striker with Timo Werner failing to make a mark.

Werner has bagged 11 goals and 12 assists this term, but he has been guilty of squandering numerous clear-cut chances.

Lukaku, who was previously with the club between 2011 and 2014, has been identified as the top striker target.

He came close to rejoining them from Everton in 2017 before he made the surprise move to Manchester United.

Inter are currently facing financial concerns amid the pandemic, and they have a deficit of more than £130m.

They need to balance their books before the end of June, and it is claimed that Lukaku could be sold.

However, The Blues are prepared to pay around £90m for his services.

Rio Ferdinand comments on Chelsea situation

Rio Ferdinand believes that Tammy Abraham is being unfairly treated at Chelsea FC due to his lack of playing time.
The England forward has found his first-team opportunities at Stamford Bridge to have been severely restricted since Thomas Tuchel was brought in as the club’s new manager back in January.

The 23-year-old has not started a game for Chelsea FC since their 1-1 draw with Southampton in the Premier League on 20 February, when he was replaced at half-time.

Indeed, Abraham has only notched up three minutes of playing time since then, when he came on during the 1-0 win over West Ham United at the weekend.

Abraham was once again an unused substitute as Chelsea FC claimed a 1-1 draw against Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie on Tuesday night.
