Pochettino wants Chelsea to land 163-goal forward this month

Chelsea are weighing up making a bid for Roma forward Paulo Dybala.

He has a buyout clause in his contract which means clubs from abroad can sign him for just €12m (£10m).

However, this is only valid until the end of July so Mauricio Pochettino’s side have just a few weeks to decide whether they want to make a move for Dybala.

The Argentinian international is now 29 years of age but he has scored 163 goals in his senior career and he could well be a cheap solution if the Blues want to strengthen their options up front.

Dybala only moved to Roma from Juventus on a free transfer last year and he had a good first season with the Giallorossi, hitting the back of the net 18 times in 38 appearances.

His injury record is a concern

Even though Dybala did play regularly for Roma last campaign, he did suffer four separate injuries, including hamstring, adductor and ankle problems.

Fitness issues have plagued the forward throughout his career, having been sidelined with SEVENTEEN different injuries during his seven-year spell with Juventus. For that reason, Chelsea fans would be right to be worried about whether he would spend more time on the treatment table than out on the pitch if he made the switch to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea do have other striker targets

In addition to Dybala, the Blues have been credited with an interest in his international teammate, Lautaro Martinez, while there is also thought to be interest in Juventus’s Dusan Vlahovic.

Both would, however, cost around £70m, and a lot will depend on the club’s transfer budget. They have recouped over £150m from player sales so far this summer but over half of that could be spent on Brighton’s Moises Caicedo. It will be interesting to see what decision Pochettino makes on recruiting a new number nine.
