‘Pressure high’: Pochettino may sell £50m Chelsea player if he doesn’t perform this season – journalist

According to Journalist Paul Brown has claimed Mauricio Pochettino could be convinced to sell Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling in the near future.

He told GiveMeSport that he could get rid of the 28-year-old if he fails to impress in the upcoming Premier League season.

After signing for £50m last summer, it’s fair to say that Sterling did not live up to the expectations he promised in West London throughout the last campaign

It would then be expected that he would be keen to step up during the following pre-season and silence any doubters of his ability.

Unfortunately, the tour of the United States seems to have had the opposite effect, and his place in the team looks as uncertain as ever after some strong performances around him.

Brown has said while he may start this weekend against his former side, he is certainly under pressure in the eyes of the manager.

Pochettino could sell Sterling

He said: “Sterling is such a big name and someone who has had such faith in him over his career that it wouldn’t surprise me if he starts the season in the first team purely because the manager needs to get something out of him.

“But he’s going to have to produce, because there is a huge amount of competition at Chelsea in the forward areas still.

“I don’t think the coach there will put up with anyone not producing for him and not performing in the first few weeks.

“He knows he’s got a big job on his hands. They have a big gap to make up on the teams that they traditionally want to compete within the league. They have to make a big leap.

“There’s been a big turnover of players that Chelsea and I think their manager can’t be messing around with anyone if they’re not performing. So Sterling is under pressure to perform or he will be out.”

It is safe to say that the England international’s performance against Liverpool is going to be absolutely huge for his upcoming season.
