Christian Pulisic admits he would ‘love’ to play alongside Barcelona and Argentina legend Lionel Messi at Chelsea. Pulisic arrived at Chelsea last summer after agreeing a move to Stamford Bridge last January, and despite some decent performances, he has not made the kind of impact that many fans would have liked to see, but many believe he will come good.
Next season fans are expecting to see the very best of the American International, especially as he will be free of injury and fully rested, but he has now opened up and admitted that he would love to play alongside Messi at Chelsea.
Messi is regarded as one of the best players in history, having scored a staggering 627 goals in 718 appearances for Barcelona and helping the Spanish club win ten La Liga titles and the Champions League four times.
The Argentine hero, who has won the Ballon d’Or a record six times, is unlikely to ever leave Barcelona and looks set to finish his top-level career with the Spanish giants, but Pulisic insists he would ‘love’ for Messi to join Chelsea.
Asked who he would ‘love’ to play alongside at Chelsea, Pulisic said on the Daily Express: ‘That’s tough, man! ‘I mean Figo was my favourite player growing up but I definitely wouldn’t mind having [Lionel] Messi on my team. Can I choose both?’
Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, Pulisic also revealed Portugal legend Figo was his ‘first footballing idol’. He added: ‘My first footballing idol was definitely Luis Figo. He’s someone I looked up to when I was younger. ‘The first shirt I owned was a Luis Figo jersey and I remember wearing it when playing football with my dad in the basement at home back in Hershey.
‘In fact, my nickname then was actually Figo! My dad started it and sometimes he even still calls me it now.’
