Report: £155K a-week player makes Chelsea transfer decision after FA Cup final defeat

Chelsea paid £71.6 million for Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao in the summer of 2018, breaking the world transfer record for a goalkeeper.

However, Thibaut Courtois, who had left Chelsea for Real Madrid the previous summer, was replaced by Kepa.

Kepa’s time in the Premier League has not gone well, and his worth has now deteriorated.

Chelsea hired Edouard Mendy as their first choice goalkeeper two years ago, and Kepa is now the club’s second-choice goalkeeper.

Kepa’s playing time has been limited this season, with his most recent appearance for Chelsea coming in the Carabao Cup final, where he came on as a substitute for the penalty shootout and ended up being the villain.

Mendy has played 47 times for the Blues this season, including 32 Premier League matches. Kepa has only made four Premier League games for the club, but appearing 15 times in total across all competitions, with the majority of his appearances (six) coming in the EFL Cup.

Mendy was representing his country in the Africa Cup of Nations when Kepa made his four league appearances this season, and the Spaniard has also lost his position in the Spanish national side.

Despite the fact that Kepa’s contract has three years left on it, journalist Ekrem Konur believes that the Spaniard is going to quit Chelsea this summer in pursuit of regular playing time with a berth in the Spain squad for the 2022 World Cup on his mind.
