REPORT: £85million-rated PSG star close to join Tuchel at Chelsea during the summer transfer window
According to French media outlet RMC Sport via Daily Mail, the Blues tried to bring Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos to Stamford Bridge this summer and were willing to offer up to £85million to secure his signature.
The report claims Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel wanted to reunite Marquinhos with his Brazilian team-mate and former PSG defensive partner Thiago Silva.
Despite Chelsea’s willingness to pay £85million for the Brazilian centre-back, PSG and Marquinhos rejected Chelsea’s approach.
Marquinhos opted against moving to Chelsea and preferred to instead remain at PSG after seeing the French side sign Lionel Messi, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi and Georginio Wijnaldum.
PSG were also not willing to sell Marquinhos as PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino views Marquinhos as a vital member of the starting eleven due to his consistently high level performances.
Despite Chelsea’s failure to sign a defender during the summer transfer window, our defence hasn’t been impacted negatively. The Blues have conceded just once in all competitions this season.
