“He’s not a good signing for Chelsea” – Michael Owen criticises Chelsea Star

Michael Owen remains sceptical about Chelsea forward Timo Werner’s chances of realising his potential at the Blues.

The German international came on as a substitute against Tottenham and set up the third goal for Antonio Rudiger but Owen believes he is still performing well below what is required in the Premier League:

“They look like they’ve got cover in every position. They’re actually carrying one or two players that aren’t really hitting it off; Werner’s not been a good signing as of yet.”

Owen is being slightly harsh on Werner. There is no doubt that the 25-year-old has underperformed since his arrival at Stamford Bridge, but he has hardly got a kick under manager Thomas Tuchel this season.

The German started the UEFA Super Cup final, as well as in the season opener against Crystal Palace, but he has only played 29 minutes of football since then.

Whether Werner will ever come good in a Chelsea shirt, it remains to be seen, but if he is going to turn his fortunes around he will need to take one of the rare opportunities he is handed by Tuchel in the coming months.
