According to reports, Chelsea are believed to be the frontrunners for Havertz, but it seems that the Blues might not have many competition after all for the signing of the German wonderkid.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has ruled out a move for Havertz, due to the impact of coronavirus on the club’s finances.
“There will be no big signings this summer, the situation is bad,” Florentino Perez said after Real Madrid won LaLiga championship on Thursday.
“You can’t ask the players to lower their salary and then make signings of that type.”
Perez’s declaration matches the statement made by reliable journalist Christian Falk, who has named Chelsea as the only club who can afford to sign Havertz at this time.
“In January, the agents informed Leverkusen about the clubs which are interested in Kai Havertz, and there was seven,” Christian Falk told Bleacher Report’s Football Ranks podcast.
“If you will see the road, it was Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and at the end of this road, there was Chelsea. Now, Chelsea are ahead in this poker, because the other clubs can’t pay so much money at the moment. “Chelsea showed with Werner that they can do that.”
