According to reports, Ben Chilwell is Chelsea’s first-choice signing in the left-back role this summer, but manager Frank Lampard and club chiefs have pinpointed two alternatives should they fail to sign the Leicester City defender.
He has an £85 million price tag, which could force the west Londoners to look elsewhere. Nicolas Tagliafico, the Ajax defender, and Porto full-back Alex Telles are back-up options and would both be considerably cheaper than Ben.
One of Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso is expected to be sold off this summer and according to a recent report by The Guardian, Inter Milan have begun talks with Emerson.
Former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, now manager at the San Siro, wants to add the 25-year-old to his squad.
Inter Milan are prepared to bid £18 million for his services but the Blues are holding out for a higher fee for the Italy international defender, who is under contract until June of 2022.
However, Emerson is open to a return to Italy to give himself the best chance of being Italy’s first-choice left-back at next year’s European Championship.
