According to HLN journalist Kristof Terreur, Chelsea are very interested in signing Napoli forward Dries Mertens.
Chelsea tried to sign Mertens during the January transfer window but the Belgian was reportedly not interested in leaving halfway through the season as he was keen on becoming Napoli’s all-time record goalscorer.
Mertens will be out of contract at the end of this season and according to Terreur, Mertens will wait until the end of the season before deciding his future.
“Situation unchanged for Dries Mertens: Inter still sniffing around, Chelsea very interested. He might have to wait for the end of the Serie A season to decide his future,” Terreur tweeted.
Terreur also recently admitted Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is keen on signing Mertens due to his versatility.
“Frank Lampard isn’t calling Dries Mertens every day, though he is still very interested,” Terreur recently tweeted.
“One of the dilemmas atm: Mertens still isn’t Napoli’s sole club topscorer – joint with Hamsik.
