Presently Chelsea currently sit with five first team centre backs competing for two positions.
Whilst is is quite normal to have four strong options with a long season of regular matches ahead, five is really not fathomable.
Chelsea will need to drop one, and it has largely been expected to be youngster Fikayo Tomori leaving on loan.
This may still happen of course, but according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea could look to sell Antonio Rudiger instead, if they can find a suitable buyer.
Romano was speaking on The Byline Podcast on Wednesday morning and confirmed that it is either Rudiger or Tomori who will be the centre back to depart this window in order to keep it with just four centre backs.
Frank Lampard selected Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma ahead of Rudiger on the opening Premier League game on Monday night, and both defenders had a great game.
Rudiger could only watch on from the bench. So it’s certainly one to keep an eye on over the coming weeks.
