REPORT: Premier league rivals offered Chelsea player a salary of €12 million per year

According to latest reports in Germany, Liverpool almost signed Chelsea striker Timo Werner as a free agent before his move to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2020.

However, Werner, then with RB Leipzig, was on a contract that expired in 2020, and was eyeing a move away as a free agent.

A report in Der Spiegel has details on a lawsuit between Werner’s agent Karl-Heinz Forster and his alleged former partner Murat Lokurlu which revealed Liverpool offered Werner a pre-contract in February 2019 to join the Premier League side as a free agent in the summer of 2020.

Liverpool offered Werner a salary of €12 million per year and a further €25m in bonuses.

However, Werner’s agent pushed his client to join Bayern and set up a deal with the Bundesliga giants for Werner, which was signed and later cancelled by the German international.

Werner then signed a new contract with RB Leipzig in August 2019 before joining Chelsea in the summer of 2020.
