Report: Tuchel ‘ready to sell’ £59 million Stamford Bridge star

Chelsea would be willing to sell forward Timo Werner this summer if the price is right, according to Daily Star columnist Paul Brown.

The £59 million-rated German joined the Premier League from RB Leipzig in a £54 million transfer in the summer of 2020, but he has only scored 10 top-flight goals in a disappointing tenure with the Blues.

Werner was one of the top goal scorers in European football when he made the transition from the Bundesliga, having scored nearly 100 goals for Leipzig.

However, the 26-year-old has struggled to adjust to English football, and while his form has improved recently, allowing him to start the last eight league games – including Sunday’s match against Everton – he is far from complete.

He has only scored 23 goals in 88 games for Chelsea, but he has added 21 assists during that time. He was brought in to help the Londoners contend for the Premier League crown.

As a result, Brown believes Chelsea would be tempted to sell Werner when the transfer season reopens, albeit he believes no one will match their asking price given Werner’s poor performance in the Premier League.

“If a team came in with a really good offer for Timo Werner, I think Chelsea would sell this summer,” Brown told GIVEMESPORT. “But I don’t think there is a team out there who will come in with a big offer because he hasn’t really done it this season to justify it, so I think he will stay for the time being.”

Meanwhile, Sport1 reports that Werner is open to leave Chelsea this summer, with a return to Germany a distinct possibility.

According to the source, Chelsea is willing to pay roughly £34 million for his services, while Borussia Dortmund is one of the clubs interested in helping him.

Werner’s contract at Stamford Bridge has three years left to run at the end of the season, but his agent is apparently already working on a new agreement following his problems in England.

Chelsea won’t want to trade both of its recognized strikers in the same window, especially with Romelu Lukaku’s future in doubt, but as Brown pointed to, if they receive a strong enough deal for Werner, moving him on would be a beneficial conclusion for all parties concerned.
