According to transfer expert Ian McGarry, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has chosen who he wants to replace Willian if the Brazilian were to leave Stamford Bridge.
Lampard reportedly wants Napoli star Dries Mertens to replace Willian at Chelsea despite the Belgian being older than Willian.
Mertens will be available on a free transfer with his contract also expiring this summer.
“Frank Lampard is certainly very keen on Dries Mertens, the Belgian international who plays at Napoli currently,” McGarry said on the Transfer Window podcast.
“He is also out of contract at the end of this current season, whichever way it finishes.
“Although he’s slightly older than Willian he’s very versatile, can play all the way across the field, and if Willian were to leave, although Lampard would prefer him to stay, then Mertens would be his No 1 choice to replace him.”
