In the final premier league game of the season Chelsea beat wolves 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to secure a place in the UEFA Champions Legaue for next season as the Blues finish the season in style despite the transfer ban.
However, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard was able to bring on the departing Pedro Rodriguez for a final runaround at Stamford Bridge as a substitute.
After the game, Lampard spoke to the media about the winger, and he revealed that behind the scenes the former Barcelona man had been given a major sendoff by his fellow players.
It’s a pity that the fans weren’t able to wave off the winger, who has been a key part of several managerial regimes at Chelsea. This season his playing time diminished, but it was only a year ago that he was a key player for Maurizio Sarri.
The 32 year old is joining Roma, but will hopefully return to Stamford Bridge again someday to get the sendoff he deserves. At least his fellow pros sound like they gave him a nice sing-song for now.
Nizaar Kinsella of Goal.com had the quotes in his Tweet:
Lampard on Azpi: "Azpi, to coach or manage a player you played with is a different situation & it has been very easy w/Azpi because of the way he is. His impact on the group, I can't overstate." Adds that he sets the standard: "He is the epitomy of the club." #CFC #CHEWOL
